Security Products

Security products have now come to be a “must have” for every home. In these times, one just can’t rely on dead locks or welded grills as security measures.

As robbers are growing more aggressive, so have security products now out in the market.

The most basic component of a functioning home security system would be sensors. A sensor is a type of transducer (which is basically an electrical, electronic, or electro-mechanical device which converts one type of energy to another).

Let’s explore some of the security product gadgets which are out in the market now:

Motion Sensors (wired or wireless)

Motion sensors. Simple and basic. Electronic signals are converted from these sensors, detecting the unwanted presence of an intruder. This event is achieved by detecting the optical (visual) or acoustical (sound) changes within a sensor’s field of view (which means there are various types of motion sensors out in production).

Motion sensors are connected to an alarm system, which is basically what alerts the owner of an unwanted presence. Many home security products utilize motion sensor systems as part of their “basic security products package”.

Advanced motion sensors utilize a combination of various technologies. “Dual technology” sensors benefit users with features like lesser false-alarm tendencies, or “pet-immune” sensors, which basically ignores pet movements.

Motion sensors come as wired or wireless. Wireless sensors are much easier to install, considering that there are no wires/wire setup involved. Here are the more common types of motion sensors:

Infrared Motion Sensors

The principle behind infrared motion sensors is simple. Think of a tripwire. Once someone “trips” over it, the trap’s set into action. Infrared motion sensors pretty much work the same way. Once an established signal gets cut off, the sensor “informs” the alarm mechanism, thus enabling the alert capabilities of the home security system.

Acoustic Sensors

These sensors delve into the sound-factor. Noise triggers them, thus activating the alarm system. The sound of glass shattering, footsteps, the sensitivity isn’t absolute, but what it monitors is. Sound.

Whispers or the clanking of break-in tools oftentimes give away the presence of would be robbers with these.

Microwave Sensors

Sensors of this type are also known as Radar or Doppler sensors and have been known to run automatic doors for years.

It basically sends out a sound wave, as it waits for a “bounce back” from its emitted sound. Once the sensor detects a chance in the bounced back sound, it’ll know that a moving object is within its detection zone.

In automatic doors, the detected activity is then returned to its internal relay, which is wired to the door control’s activation point.

In home security systems, the detected activity is relayed to its alarm system, thus activating the alert system.

Glass Break Sensors

Within the roster of available home security alarm systems products is the glass break sensor. Be it a baseball or intruder, home owners are made aware of a glass break, thus giving them the awareness to do necessary action.

Acoustic Sensors

Acoustic sensors are basically geared to gauge noise levels in a specific area. As part of a home security product, acoustic sensors monitor the level of noise within its predetermined assigned area.

The detection of noise indicates activity (which could be expected or not), thus its application as a home security device.

Security Video Monitors

Closed circuit television cameras are used as security video monitors. Such a setup is different from a regular television broadcasting system, in the sense that closed circuit tv (CCTV) “broadcasts” to one specific monitor only (or to one system).

Surveillance cameras come as immediate needs for offices or places of business, but are also effective for home use.

Visually monitoring a specific area leads to a recorded know how on which areas covered one can improve, which is useful for business, particularly establishments who occasionally fall victim to shoplifters.

With the advent of the times, home security systems have somewhat become a necessity. You may want to consider getting one. That is, if you still don’t.
