Home Invasion

Home invasion. This happens when a robber (or robbers) breaks into an occupied home, hotel room or apartment, committing a robbery or other crimes. The event is basically a residential version of an automobile robbery, or carjacking, and like a regular car jacking, it is on the rise, threatening homes and families.

A comprehensive home security system stands to be your best defense against a home invasion incident. A motion detector could easily tell you there’s someone in the den, or if there is somebody in the kitchen. A fire detector could warn you of a fire hazard detected in the living room. Or a glass break sensor would know if someone (or something) has broken your window’s glass pane.

Though these devices are not exactly aimed to literally fight your battles for you, they do grant you one advantage over would be burglars: the fact that you’d be aware of their presence inside your home (or even outside your home).

Armed with this knowledge alone, one could take necessary action.

Motion Sensors

The guard dog principle basically runs the motion sensors’ system. Picture a guard dog guarding your lawn. Once it sees someone approaching, the guard dog barks, alerting you to the coming person. A motion sensor basically works the same way, only it doesn’t rely on sight and smell for its attention to be piqued (that plus you don’t need to walk a motion sensor, let alone give it food or rabies shots).

Utilizing various technologies (infrared, microwave, etc) for their successful operation, motion sensors are quite effective “guard dogs.” No burglar could steer clear off its path considering it is movement that would trigger the device.

A wireless variety of motion sensors exists in the market now, so they are pretty easy to install.

Video Monitoring/Surveillance Systems

A video surveillance system is basically a closed circuit television system. It differs from regular television in the sense that closed circuit TV doesn’t broadcast its video feed to the general public, rather to a specific monitor or monitors.

They’re very useful for real time monitoring, as well as a visual supplement for other installed home security devices.

Security-wise, large houses with plenty of rooms would greatly benefit with an installed security surveillance system.

Glass Break Detectors

The most popular type of glass break detectors utilize a sound sensitive detector calibrated to recognize the sound of breaking glass. Upon the registration of such a sound is detected by the device, the alarm system is activated, thus fulfilling its purpose.

From the foul ball hit, to an intruder breaking in, no shattering glass goes unrecognized by this device.

Wireless Intercom System (With Video Capabilities)

Know who is outside your door. With an intercom system, you’d be able to verify just who exactly is out knocking on your door. Using one with integrated video capabilities, then you’d get to see just who exactly is outside knocking.

Delivery men, unwanted guests, possible burglars, they all would be “screened” by you before you let them inside your home.

Driveway Alarms

With most brands and models boasting an impressive detection range, driveway alarms stand to be your first line of home security devices. Functional because of motion detectors (again utilizing one technology or another, infrared, microwave, etc), driveway alarms would let you know once someone comes near your driveway, your yard, your pool, anywhere within its detection range.

Certain types are integrated with a video surveillance system, which is quite a useful feature. Visual coverage would help you verify suspicious persons, suspicious vehicles (through their plate numbers) or simply a “fish eye hole” for you.

These days one just can’t rely on good luck to keep one’s home safe. The war against home invasion robbery has been going on for a long time now. By setting up a home security system in your home, you’d be making the odds for victory go in your favor.
