Burglary, the crime has plagued society for years. When a person commits burglary, it is a always terrible experience for the victim. Intruders forcibly break into one’s home, riddling if off whatever possessions homeowners have. Regardless of weather there are people inside or not, the burglary transpires, usually within a 5 minute time frame. Time enough for a robber to break inside your home, grab your possessions and make do with his/her/their getaway.
Installing an anti-intruder system could come in between you and an intruder with criminal intent. A home security system may not exactly “fight your battle” for you, but it will arm you with the knowledge of an intruder’s intentions in or outside your property.
In some cases, having this knowledge could save more than just one’s possessions.
Over the years, technology has been kind to the development of home security systems. Integrated devices, wireless devices, even equipment with internet connectivity, the list of advancements goes on and on, and is still going until now.
Motion Sensors
A basic member in any home security system package, motion sensors have proven their place in the roster of devices worthy to be called as such. The ruling logic behind the successful operation of a motion sensor is simple. Once something moves, the movement triggers the device’s alarm system, thus alerting homeowners of the movement.
A number of technologies have been utilized to work as motion sensors. From microwave technology, to infrared, these devices, though different in technological origins, are competent enough to fulfill their function.
Microwave sensors can be commonly found operating in automatic doors. What happens is that the device emits a sound wave (inaudible to human ears, of course), as it waits for a “bounce back” wave. Once a difference in the bounce back frequency is detected, the sensor would be then aware that something has changed within its monitoring range, signaling the presence of movement, thus triggering the system to open the doors.
As motion detectors, the devices functions no different, except that no door is opened, rather the alarm system connected to the device is triggered, thus alerting homeowners of detected movement.
Infrared technology-run motion sensors operate as how trip wires work. Once an established infrared beam is cut (for example, by a foot) the device would recognize the event and register it. More sophisticated infrared sensors could detect elements like human body heat.
The bottom line is, motion detectors are aimed to detect movement. As burglars have to move to fulfill their intentions, having a motion detector installed would be an added plus against them.
Video Surveillance System
The greatest plus one could get from an installed video surveillance system would be real time monitoring capabilities. A video surveillance system is basically a closed circuit television setup. This differs from regular television, in the sense that the captured video isn’t broadcasted to the general public. Rather, a specific monitor (or monitors) gets to see the video feed.
One would be able to see just who is outside the house, or, as in most cases, gets visual supplement from alarms triggered by motion detectors.
These days, video surveillance devices come in varying forms. Some are “disguised,” designed to look like everyday common items. As a person commits burglary, he/she would have no idea he is being recorded already.
These incognito surveillance cameras could be commonly found in convenience stores or pharmacies. A pharmacy burglary would have visual record should a burglary take place. A convenience store would be able to take not of which areas in the store fall victim to shoplifting incidents.
Homeowners could utilize surveillance cameras as video intercoms, giving them visual confirmation as to who’s knocking at the door.
Indeed the times have changed. There are now dangers coming into homes. No amount of passive thinking could keep homes safe. It’s time to be equal with them.
Steal the upper hand from burglars. Know where they are, even before they could put their ploy into action.
